SELF REGULATION THERAPY

IS TRAUMA STUCK IN YOUR

NERVOUS SYSTEM

I want to share with you what I feel is the Key to..

  • finally feeling sane,

  • trusting your bodies intuition

  • realizing that they’re NOT broken

The room was heavy with the painful energy that my client radiated as she described her most recent interaction with her supervisor. Her voice grew quite and I noticed she was transported via memory into situation that occurred many years prior. I acknowledged the pain that came up by the traumatic flash back and supported her to move forward, inviting her to notice the sensations in her body that came up from that distant memory. I then helped her to find a place in her body where she felt a bit more at ease or comfortable. The experience that I’m describing is one that is familiar to many who work with clients that have thwarted fight, fight and freeze stored in the nervous system. - Nadine Jones

Most of us go through life, dealing with one (or more) of the following…

  • Post-traumatic stress disorder

  • Chronic pains & illnesses

  • Habits & patterns that drive you (and the people in your life) crazy

  • Mental roadblocks, fears, and resistance that paralyze you from doing what you know (deep down) you’re meant to do

  • Fatigue & foggy headedness

  •  Physical symptoms, migraines, tinnitis (ringing in the ears), hyperacusis (sensitivity to sound), photophobia (sensitivity to light),  gastrointestinal difficulties, headaches

  • alcohol and drug abuse.

  • Emotional symptoms, like depression, anxiety & stress…

Does this sounds familiar, maybe you’ve already tried to find relief through different methods, modalities, medications and more. I’m guessing that for you, none of it has worked or maybe it worked temporarily, but you still don’t feel complete.

Most of us have been trying to heal ourselves without FIRST taking care of our nervous system. Most of us have lived our lives not even thinking about the nervous system. All that work we’re doing won’t be able to give us true, lasting change & relief, unless we can get trauma un-trapped from our nervous system.

Do you…

  • Shut down in times of stress,  is emotionally numb something you know all too well.

  • Find it difficult to express any solid full-scale emotions like joy, anger or sadness.

  • “Flip your Lid”,  before you know it mean and hurtful words are flying out of your mouth attacking those you love the most, like your children or partner.

  • Feel stuck in harmful habits and addiction, because it's the only mechanism you’ve found that numbs your feelings, because coping with feelings is excruciatingly painful.

  • Never truly feel a compliment land, always in your mind brushing it off, thinking if they only really new. Than asking why can’t I just feel like I’m ever good enough?

  • Keep faking it till you make it, but never feel like you’re getting anywhere

Why is it so tough to get on top of these things?

My guess is that no one has ever taught you how your nervous system really works.

Trauma is stored in the Nervous System so let’s move it out, are you ready to stop holding on to trauma and heal.

Let’s start doing!

Trauma overwhelms our coping capacity and can block our ability to physical, emotional, and spiritual wellness. The perception and impact of trauma varies greatly and many display a mix of survival responses.

As humans navigating life we have all experienced traumatic events and often the impact leaves a lasting impact on how we move through life. Using Self-Regulation Therapy I can assist clients to slow down, get curious, and move through trauma. This can all be done without sharing your full experience with me in words, because I don’t need to know your story to work with the nervous system, the nervous system knows and remembers

Coaching is life-changing, community-changing work. Dlaang Life and Wellness works with clients on a deeper level, I coach the whole person: physical, mental, emotional and spiritual. Whole person Transformation.

What is Self Regulation Therapy?

Self Regulation Therapy (SRT) is a mind/body approach aimed at diminishing excess activation in the nervous system. It has its basis in neurobiology and reflects our innate capacity to flexibly respond to novelty or threat. Significant overwhelming events at any time in one’s life can result in changes in the nervous system that negatively impact the way a person feels and relates to others. SRT works by providing a safe, contained environment in which the individual can complete the thwarted responses of fight, flight or freeze.

What symptoms are helped with SRT?

Dysregulation is the inability to modulate emotional and behavioral responses, as a result of developmental derailments or shock trauma, which manifests in many disorders including post-traumatic stress disorder, anxiety and mood disorders, phobias, and personality disorders. Physical symptoms of dysregulation include insomnia, asthma, allergies, migraines, tinnitis (ringing in the ears), hyperacusis (sensitivity to sound), photophobia (sensitivity to light), chronic pain, fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue, autoimmune diseases, gastrointestinal difficulties, headaches, pain in neck and back, temporomandibular joint dysfunction, alcohol and drug abuse.

What can you expect with SRT?

Because SRT is a non-cathartic approach, you can expect to feel a sense of control and a general sense of well being at the end of a session. You may experience a discharge of excess energy in the nervous system through heat, tingling or trembling. Occasionally, you may experience an increase in pain, but it is typically short-lived. As SRT helps to bring balance to the nervous system, you can expect to feel more alive, and more able to manage the unavoidable stress in daily life

Are there any adverse effects of SRT?

Because SRT works with sensations in the body, you may notice that there is an increase in your sensory experiences, both positive and negative. Although the overall effect is a decrease in activation (i.e., anxiety, tension, pain), people will sometimes experience an increase in activation for a short time as their nervous system learns to balance energy

How many sessions will it take?

It is likely that you will begin to feel better after a few sessions. It is important to talk with your therapist about your goals, both short and long-term, so that your progress can be assessed.
